Field-by-field comparison

Compare the evidence before choosing an MCP.

Each signal stays separate, missing facts remain visible, and the column order follows your selection.

Uncheck an MCP to remove it. Comparing two or three keeps each signal in its own row.

Task fit
Best for
  • Manage Cloudinary media assets, metadata, folders, transformations, and generation workflows
  • Cloudinary users who need to manage cloudinary media assets, metadata, folders, transformations, and generation workflows.
  • Inspecting and testing web interfaces through accessibility snapshots
  • Reproducing browser journeys in a dedicated test profile
Not ideal for
  • Uploads, deletes, renames, metadata changes, transformations, and generation mutate production media. Protect Cloudinary API secrets. Dynamic/progressive-discovery mode exposes four meta-tools but does not reduce the underlying 30-tool capability surface.
  • API-only testing that does not need a browser
  • Unattended access to a personal browsing profile
Avoid when
  • Uploads, deletes, renames, metadata changes, transformations, and generation mutate production media. Protect Cloudinary API secrets. Dynamic/progressive-discovery mode exposes four meta-tools but does not reduce the underlying 30-tool capability surface.
  • The workflow cannot permit an agent to navigate, type, click, upload files, or read page content
  • You cannot isolate sensitive authenticated sessions from the agent-controlled browser

Client coverage noteLocal stdio runs on your computer. Streamable HTTP connects to a remotely hosted MCP server.
Access and data
AuthenticationFor the local Asset Management MCP package, Cloudinary cloud name, API key, and API secret are required. Cloudinary also documents a hosted Asset Management MCP endpoint with hosted authentication. The server itself does not require a service account for local stdio use, but websites opened in the controlled browser may use cookies or other authenticated browser state.
CostNo separate MCP fee is documented. Cloudinary has a free tier and paid plans based on monthly credits/usage; asset and transformation operations can consume normal Cloudinary quotas/credits.The first-party open-source package lists no MCP server usage fee. Normal internet, hosted-client, proxy, or third-party website costs can still apply.
PermissionsThe MCP acts with the Cloudinary account/API credential authority supplied to it. The available tool surface includes uploading, managing, searching, transforming and organizing assets; dynamic mode can expose only four meta-tools for progressive discovery. The exposed tools can navigate pages, interact with elements, enter text, upload files, inspect network activity, and optionally use additional browser capabilities.
Data handlingNot documented in the reviewed sources. The reviewed Asset Management MCP repository does not state a specific MCP prompt-retention or training policy. API calls operate on Cloudinary media assets and account metadata.Page text, accessibility snapshots, console output, network details, uploaded paths, and browser state may be returned to the connected MCP client. Isolated mode keeps the temporary profile in memory; persistent mode stores browser state on disk.
Limitations
Tradeoffs
  • Shortlist evidence is sufficient for identity, setup and task value; authenticated runtime tool-schema measurement and exhaustive security certification remain out of scope.
  • A persistent profile is convenient but can retain cookies and authenticated state between sessions.
  • Origin allow/block options reduce accidental access but the publisher explicitly says they are not a security boundary.
Risk contextThe MCP can upload, transform, tag, move/organize and otherwise manage media assets. Broad API credentials can therefore permit production asset changes and expose media/account metadata.Playwright MCP is not a security boundary. Secret replacement or masking is a convenience feature, not a security boundary. Prefer an isolated browser profile, non-sensitive test accounts, narrow destinations, minimal optional permissions, and client-side approval controls.
