Field-by-field comparison

Compare the evidence before choosing an MCP.

Each signal stays separate, missing facts remain visible, and the column order follows your selection.

MCPs in this comparison

Uncheck an MCP to remove it. Comparing two or three keeps each signal in its own row.

Task fit
Best for
  • Opening crash dumps and querying debugger analysis, stacks, modules, and symbols through WinDbg/CDB
  • Human-in-the-loop issue, event, trace, and performance investigation
  • Coding agents working on one constrained Sentry project
  • Teams using the supported hosted OAuth service
Not ideal for
  • Cross-platform debugging, live application observability, or root-cause conclusions without symbol and source validation
  • General-purpose Sentry administration
  • Unattended remediation against production
  • Self-hosted users unwilling to configure tokens and optional LLM providers
Avoid when
  • Crash dumps may contain secrets or memory content that cannot be exposed to the connected AI client
  • Error payloads may contain secrets or personal data that cannot be shown to the model/client
  • You cannot constrain the session to the intended organization/project
  • The requested OAuth scopes or write-capable skills exceed policy

Access and data
AuthenticationStdio has no separate authentication. The documented HTTP transport has no authentication; the publisher recommends localhost, SSH tunneling, or an authenticating reverse proxy. The hosted service uses MCP OAuth layered over Sentry OAuth; raw Sentry credentials stay server-side. Stdio uses a Sentry user auth token and may also require OpenAI or Anthropic credentials for AI-powered search.
CostThe MIT-licensed server lists no MCP fee. Windows Debugging Tools and symbol-network use are external requirements. The repository is source-available under its published license and the hosted MCP has no separately documented fee in the reviewed sources. Normal Sentry plan/usage, Seer, and external LLM-provider charges may apply.
PermissionsLaunches CDB or KD, reads crash dumps, attaches to user-mode remote and kernel targets, runs arbitrary WinDbg or KD commands, and can interrupt live sessions.Hosted OAuth requests org:read, project:write, team:write, and event:write upstream, then narrows exposed actions through granted MCP skills and optional /mcp/:org/:project resource paths. Stdio documentation lists org/project/team read/write and event write token scopes.
Data handlingDump contents, symbol paths, commands, and outputs can be returned to the client or model. Filter scripts can redact text before it leaves the host; symbol retrieval may use Microsoft symbol services. Retention is not documented.Issue, event, trace, release, team, project, and related telemetry may be returned to the MCP client. Hosted mode stores upstream OAuth credentials in encrypted grant properties and gives the client a separate MCP token. AI search tools may process query/event context through configured model infrastructure.
Limitations
Tradeoffs
  • It speeds repetitive debugger queries, but depends on Windows debugging tools and symbol quality and AI summaries can misinterpret low-level evidence.
  • The hosted server keeps upstream Sentry credentials server-side and narrows sessions by skills and paths, but requests broad upstream scopes.
  • AI-powered natural-language search may invoke an embedded model/provider; stdio self-hosting requires separate provider keys for those tools.
  • Self-hosted Sentry may lack features such as Seer and needs explicit skill disabling.
Risk contextCrash dumps can contain secrets or PII, and arbitrary debugger or kernel commands can affect live systems. Keep HTTP loopback-only or behind authentication, use redaction filters, and supervise remote and kernel sessions.Production error telemetry often contains sensitive values, while upstream OAuth scopes include write capabilities. Prefer a project-constrained hosted URL, minimal granted skills, human approval for mutations, and prior telemetry scrubbing.
