Field-by-field comparison

Compare the evidence before choosing an MCP.

Each signal stays separate, missing facts remain visible, and the column order follows your selection.

MCPs in this comparison

Uncheck an MCP to remove it. Comparing two or three keeps each signal in its own row.

Task fit
Best for
  • Assisting with KiCad project inspection and repetitive PCB or schematic editing tasks
  • Creating and editing Unity project assets, scenes, scripts, and editor state through supported AI coding clients
Not ideal for
  • Safety-critical electrical design or final design-rule approval without an experienced engineer
  • Older Unity projects or game-development tasks that do not require direct Editor control
Avoid when
  • You cannot version, inspect, and independently validate every generated design change
  • You cannot review or revert agent-made project and scene changes

Access and data
AuthenticationNo authentication is documented for the local MCP server. JLCPCB live lookup optionally uses JLCPCB_APP_ID, JLCPCB_API_KEY, and JLCPCB_API_SECRET; local catalog search needs no credentials. The WebSocket server defaults to localhost:8090. Remote instructions can bind it to 0.0.0.0; no bearer-token or OAuth mechanism is documented.
CostThe MIT-licensed server lists no MCP fee. The JLCPCB guide says Basic parts have free assembly and Extended parts charge a $3 setup fee per unique part; manufacturing charges are separate. The publisher describes the MIT-licensed project as free and open source. Unity, Node.js, hosting, client, and model costs are separate.
PermissionsReads and writes KiCad boards, schematics, projects, libraries, and assets, with auto-save, UI control, autorouting, exports, and optional JLCPCB catalog and API operations.Executes Unity menus and controls scenes, GameObjects, components, materials, assets, packages, tests, logs, play mode, and project-state resources through a WebSocket bridge.
Data handlingLocal operations read and write design files and paths. Developer logs contain tool-call history, paths, and design details. Optional JLCPCB lookups send configured credentials and requests to JLCPCB; retention is not documented.Unity scenes, assets, project state, and console logs are read or modified locally and returned through MCP. Remote transmission, retention, and telemetry are not documented.
Limitations
Tradeoffs
  • Automation can accelerate layout work, but malformed or electrically incorrect edits may look plausible and can become expensive after fabrication.
  • Direct Editor integration speeds iteration, but setup spans a Unity package and Node server and automated changes may leave the project in an invalid state.
Risk contextAuto-save, deletion, board and schematic writes, routing, and external integrations can damage designs or expose files and credentials. Use backups and version control, review writes, and protect environment files and logs. Can make destructive project changes, install packages, execute menu items, and control play mode. Keep the bridge loopback-only and supervise all writes and deletions in a version-controlled project.
